05-14-2018 11:35 PM. Recently got a Canon refurb EFs 24mm pancake lens. But now I'm not sure if it's acting up on me or not. While taking some photos of the sign below the autofocus acted strangely. I composed the shot and focused using the back button and the image went completely blurry as the lens attempted to focus to a minimum distance.
And I've only had a couple of primes that could use the same hood. 100%. Lens hoods for specific lenses have the correct shape & depth to prevent flare. I've used 3rd party hoods as well, but they're always direct replacements for the OEM; ie with the same size, shape, and depth as the OEM. Unfortunately Canon only supplies hoods for their LThe 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM is similar in optical and physical design to the above 24mm but offers a bit wider focal length, a fixed lens hood, and has been recommended as an ideal lens for astrophotography.
